This course introduces students to the basics of kitchen safety and equipment use, entry level food preparation including interpreting a recipe and the use of correct measurements of liquid and dry ingredients. A brief introduction to Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide is also examined.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
1. Demonstrate appropriate safety procedures
2. Demonstrate knowledge of work habits and kitchen duties
3. Demonstrate cooperation in attaining group goals (preparation and serving nutritious foods)
4. Apply literacy skills in food and nutrition (theory and labs)
5. Demonstrate and understand theoretical aspects of the curriculum
Tentative Day 2 Schedule:
Class 1: Welcome to Foods
Class 2: Cheese Quesadilla
Class 3: Whole Wheat Baana Chocolate Chip
Class 4: Apple Cinnamon Biscuits
Class 5: Pizza Roll Ups
Class 6: Folk Festival Cookies, Fruit Smoothies
Class 7: Eye Opener

Day 3 & 4 Schedule :(Carman Only) Day 3 and Day 4 will Focus on theory
If you miss a class, please see me for any missed work and check the Grade 7 missed assignments folder located on the wall near the office.
What if you miss a test?
Carman Collegiate: If you miss a test, you will need to schedule a time for you to write it. Please be advised that you may be asked to schedule a test during your lunch.
Miami, Elm Creek and Dufferin Christian Schools: you will need to schedule a time to write a missed test or quiz during the next Foods class. If you don’t, you may be asked to take the test at your home school and fax it to Carman Collegiate.
What do I need?
• Pen or pencil (something that is easy to read)
• Binder, folder or something equivalent to keep all your notes. There could be a surprise open book test!
• Reusable container to take any leftover food home
• Be prepared to focus and follow lessons, tasks, and instructions.
• Arrive to class on time. This includes after breaks and using class time appropriately.
• Remember to be a team player!
• Being respectful of yourself, others, and class tools and equipment is necessary for success!
Please note that pop is not allowed into the Foods Lab. Class appropriate drinks are water, white/chocolate milk, flavored/vitamin waters, iced tea.
