The Grade 8 Foods and Nutrition course is designed to review Grade 7 safety and sanitation practices and procedures and introduce students to new basic kitchen safety and equipment principals. A strong emphasis on preparing nutritious and delicious foods using Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide is also explored.
You will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
1. Demonstrate appropriate safety procedures
2. Demonstrate knowledge of work habits and kitchen duties
3. Demonstrate cooperation in attaining group goals (preparation and serving nutritious foods)
4. Apply literacy skills in food and nutrition (theory and labs)
5. Demonstrate and understand theoretical aspects of the curriculum

Class 1: Welcome to Foods (theory only)
Class 2: Review last class, theory, review today’s recipe, Skinny Dip ‘n’ carrot curls with Strawberries and Fruit Dip
Class 3: Review last class, theory, review today’s recipe Mexican Grilled Cheese
Class 4: Review last class, theory, review today’s recipe Baked Chicken Parmesan with Spaghetti
Class 5: Review last class, theory, review today’s recipe Banana French toast with homemade Orange Frosty
Class 6: Review last class, theory, review today’s recipe Homemade Beef Burgers with Easy Oven Fries
Class 7: Review last class, theory, review today’s recipe Rancher’s Chicken Wraps and chocolate chip cookies
For Day 2 & 6 Schedule: (Carman Only)
Day 2 and Day 6 will focus on theory.
What do I need?
• Please bring a notebook and writing utensil to every class.
• Bring in reusable containers for any left over food you wish to take home.
• Be prepared to focus and follow lessons, tasks, and instructions.
• Arrive to class on time, this includes after breaks and using class time appropriately.
• Remember to be a team player!
• Being respectful of yourself, others, and class tools and equipment is necessary for success!
To promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage students to make healthy food choices, please refrain from bringing pop to class. Flavored waters, milk, chocolate milk, juices and iced tea are acceptable.
